Sometimes, work can become very busy seeing patients one after another, working on charts and finishing other tasks in the office. In those days, I feel that I’m getting very little useful movement and feel like I could use some activity to de-stress.
However, it is difficult to find a way to move when you are in business attire and don’t have enough time to change, get some activity in and then get back to work.
Carrying my resistance band to work has solved that issue for me. Whenever I have some down time or feel some tension building up, I often reach for the band in my purse and pull at it in various ways.
Building some upper arm strength while working can never be a bad thing. At lunch time, I close the office door for a few minutes and use the band to do a few bicep curls, tricep training and throw a few punches for tension relief. All of this with a dress and heels.
I really got into using resistance bands to do strength training during the pandemic when we weren’t going to the gym. Using the back door of my closet, I found some great YouTube videos to follow and felt that I got a decent work out without machines.
It’s really a good way to start resistance training when machines at a gym overwhelm you or you have no access to free weights. It is also a cheap way to get started because finding a set of resistance bands is relatively affordable and can be used anywhere. I also find I get more bang for the buck because they test muscles throughout the entire exercise by keeping the tension throughout the entire movement.
The range of movement that can be achieved from a resistance band which a machine cannot provide and the ability to improve on movements you do in everyday life makes resistance band training a really efficient form of exercise.
Whenever I recommend my patients to move more because of various health concerns, I always get the excuse of I don’t have the time or money to exercise.
I always recommend that they take some walks around the neighborhood and get themselves resistance bands and they have all they need to get started on an effective exercise regiment.
